§ 36-19. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Anchor means the act of placing the anchor of a boat on land at a point above the ordinary high-water line for the purpose of preventing the boat from drifting or giving way.

    Beach means the act of placing a boat's hull, either in part or in its entirety, on land at a point above the ordinary high-water line for the purpose of preventing the boat from drifting or giving way.

    Boats means all boats, motorboats, sailboats, catamarans, jet skis, paddle boats, rowboats, canoes, dinghies, skiffs, rafts, dugouts, dredges and other vehicles of transportation for use on water, including inboard and outboard motorboats, and all objects tied to or connected therewith while being propelled or sailed through the water.

    Hull means the frame or body of a boat, exclusive of the mast, yard, sail, rigging and other superstructure.

    Inboard motorboat means a boat propelled by a stationary or built-in mechanical device or means of power.

    Outboard motorboat means a boat propelled by a mechanical device or means of power that is not stationary or built-in.

    Park means to bring a boat to a stop and to keep it stationary, by means of anchoring or beaching, for a period of time.

    Public property means land either owned by the town or dedicated by plat to the town, whether for right-of-way or other purposes.

    Public swimming areas mean areas of a lake and its beach demarcated by the town by lines and floats and other markers and set aside for public swimming and wading.
